Neurology

Neurology encompasses diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Pets with neurologic disease can exhibit signs that are frightening to observe, such as paralysis, difficulty walking, tremors, and seizures. We at Evesham Veterinary Clinic diagnose and treat neurological diseases. We start with a history and physical examination. Further testing may include radiographs and bloodwork. Many cases can be treated with medication and rest. If neurosurgery or advanced imaging such as a CT, MRI (magnetic resonance image), or myelogram is indicated, we refer to a number of specialists in our area.

Spay and Neuter

Most pet owners in Marlton, Cherry Hill, Voorhees, and the surrounding area choose to spay and neuter their pets in order to prevent health problems and to reduce pet overpopulation.

Definitions

Spay (ovariohysterectomy, fix) – removal of the ovaries and uterus
Neuter (orchiectomy, castration, alter) – removal of the testes

Advantages

Prevent mismatings and overpopulation
Prevent euthanasia of unwanted puppies and kittens
Lower chance of mammary cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer in females
Prevent pyometra in females
Eliminate heat cycles
Reduce chance of prostate problems, testicular cancer, and anal tumors in males
Reduce chance dogs and cats will be hit by a car
Sometimes reduce undesirable behaviors
Prevent costs of caring for pregnant animals, labor and delivery, and caring for newborn puppies and kittens

Major surgery requiring general anesthesia
Potential for complications
Pain (lessened with analgesics)
Expense (recovered in lower long-term costs)

Laser therapy treatment is safe, painless and fast. Treatments to deeper tissues are administered in 5 to 10 minutes. Typically, even chronic patients exhibit improvement after 3 to 5 treatment sessions. Laser therapy utilizes the body’s own healing powers by stimulating cellular activity. Despite short treatment times, laser therapy treatments initiate a healing process that continues to actively reduce inflammation for up to 24 hours after treatment.

Ultrasonography

We are skilled in the use of ultrasound, a technology that uses sound waves to create images. Ultrasound is useful for imaging soft tissues. It is painless, and exposes the patient to no ionizing radiation.

Radiology

We are equipped with a digital x-ray machine. This produces high quality images and exposes the patient to less radiation than film. Digital images are readily portable and easily shared with radiologists if a consultation is needed.

We also have a digital dental x-ray machine, which gives detailed images of the teeth, jaws, and soft tissues of the mouth.
